Thailand Metropolitan Administration’s Flood Control Centre reported that Bangkok were hit by moderate to heavy rain on Wednesday. An hour after the heavy rain hit the capital, several areas and roads in Bangkok were underwater, especially in Udom Suk, Bangna, and Latkrabang. The downpour also caused significant traffic disruptions in the morning. The district of Lat Krabang, near Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, recorded the highest rainfall of 62.5mm.
Thai netizens shared their unpleasant experiences on the roads via social media, with some reporting that they had to take the day off and return home. District offices already deploy traffic officials to flooded roads to assist affected motorists.
Low to moderate rainfall is forecast in Bangkok and the surrounding provinces of Prachinburi, Nakhon Nayok and Chachoengsao until Friday. The lowest temperature is 24 degrees Celsius, and the highest temperature is 33 degrees Celsius.
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a weather warning of thunderstorms in upper Thailand. City firefighters and rescue teams are also on standby to help people affected by thunderstorms and floods.
It cautioned residents to beware of large trees and unsecured billboards that could possibly fall in the wet and windy conditions, and advised farmers to make preparations to prevent crop damage. Winds and waves in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea will also be more pronounced until Sunday.
